Knowing how we should treat each other is only the beginning.
You probably don’t need another reminder that roommates should be considerate, communicate clearly, and keep their agreements. Most of us already know that.
So why do we sometimes snap instead of explain, retaliate instead of resolve, or wait for the other person to be decent first?
That is where the Freedom Preacher Roommates Newsletter begins.
Drawing on my book, Of Course You Are Having Roommate Trouble, I’ll explore what I call “the cycle of treating each other badly”: how frustration, anger, anxiety, and the pressures of a dysfunctional society can show up in the way we treat the people closest to us—and how their reactions can keep the cycle going.
We’ll look at ordinary situations with some less ordinary questions:
- Are you addressing what your roommate did—or passing along what someone else did to you?
- Do you want to solve the problem, or make the other person feel your frustration?
- Can you make a constructive first move without accepting a permanently one-sided relationship?
Understanding a pattern does not excuse mistreatment. And interrupting it does not mean pretending every living arrangement can—or should—be saved.
This newsletter is for people willing to look beyond what we already know we should do and consider why we don’t always do it.
Free by email, about once a month initially. You’ll also hear about new articles, free Zoom sessions, and other Freedom Preacher Roommates offerings.
